ECOCIDE - After World War Two, a new crime was created on the international statute books, called Genocide. Since then there has been no World War Three, but humans, have created the Anthropocene Age, where governments and powerful corporations are destroying the planet environmentally. We are therefore keen to see the Rome Statute amended to create a crime to recognise and seek to prevent ruthless profiteering and exploitation, such that this irresponsible plundering of our natural resources might be prosecuted by the International Criminal Court. 

Hiroshimai was some heavy shit, killing thousands of people by dropping a nuclear bomb with the aim of ending hostilities between the US and Japan during World War Two. Such catastrophic events should at the very least support the introduction of a hefty Radiation Tax.

LITTLE BOY AND FAT BOY

Orders were issued on 25 July by General Thomas Handy, the acting Chief of Staff of the United States Army, for atomic bombs to be used against Hiroshima, Kokura, Niigata, and Nagasaki. These targets were chosen because they were large urban areas that also held militarily significant facilities. On 6 August, a Little Boy was dropped on Hiroshima, to which Prime Minister Suzuki reiterated the Japanese government's commitment to ignore the Allies' demands and fight on. Three days later, a Fat Man was dropped on Nagasaki. Over the next two to four months, the effects of the atomic bombings killed between 90,000 and 146,000 people in Hiroshima and 39,000 and 80,000 people in Nagasaki; roughly half occurred on the first day. For months afterward, large numbers of people continued to die from the effects of burns, radiation sickness, and injuries, compounded by illness and malnutrition. Most of the dead were civilians, although Hiroshima had a sizable military garrison.

Japan surrendered to the Allies on 15 August, six days after the Soviet Union's declaration of war and the bombing of Nagasaki. The Japanese government signed the instrument of surrender on 2 September, effectively ending the war. Scholars have extensively studied the effects of the bombings on the social and political character of subsequent world history and popular culture, and there is still much debate concerning the ethical and legal justification for the bombings. Supporters believe that the atomic bombings were necessary to bring a swift end to the war with minimal casualties, while critics argue that the Japanese government could have been brought to surrender through other means, while highlighting the moral and ethical implications of nuclear weapons and the deaths caused to civilians.

Had Japan elected to carry on fighting, the country could have been wiped out completely. But that would have been an atrocity and genocide.

The discovery of nuclear fission by German chemists Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann in 1938, and its theoretical explanation by Lise Meitner and Otto Frisch, made the development of an atomic bomb a theoretical possibility. Fears that a German atomic bomb project would develop atomic weapons first, especially among scientists who were refugees from Nazi Germany and other fascist countries, were expressed in the Einstein-Szilard letter. This prompted preliminary research in the United States in late 1939. Progress was slow until the arrival of the British MAUD Committee report in late 1941, which indicated that only 5 to 10 kilograms of isotopically enriched uranium-235 were needed for a bomb instead of tons of natural uranium and a neutron moderator like heavy water.

The 1943 Quebec Agreement merged the nuclear weapons projects of the United Kingdom and Canada, Tube Alloys and the Montreal Laboratory, with the Manhattan Project, under the direction of Major General Leslie R. Groves, Jr., of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Groves appointed J. Robert Oppenheimer to organize and head the project's Los Alamos Laboratory in New Mexico, where bomb design work was carried out. Two types of bombs were eventually developed, both named by Robert Serber. Little Boy was a gun-type fission weapon that used uranium-235, a rare isotope of uranium separated at the Clinton Engineer Works at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The other, known as a Fat Man device, was a more powerful and efficient, but more complicated, implosion-type nuclear weapon that used plutonium created in nuclear reactors at Hanford, Washington.

There was a Japanese nuclear weapon program, but it lacked the human, mineral and financial resources of the Manhattan Project, and never made much progress towards developing an atomic bomb.

A SOLUTION

We must learn from the past. There is no need to threaten or engage in nuclear wars, save perhaps where a nuclear (bully) aggressor needs to be taught a lesson by elimination. Robots can defend homelands and borders, and conventional drones fight battles to do with renegade politicians seeking to absorb neighboring lands, or control over natural resources, or with genocidal, ecocidal or other crimes against humanity.

Robotics should thus be a priority development area, as a non-nuclear deterrent, replacement to nuclear weapons.

Once way of avoiding conflict is for all countries to work together to respect borders, secure food supplies and cheap energy, and develop zero emission transport, such as to promote peaceful world trade.

The root of all evil is money and power. Extreme wealth should be taxed, and power limited to short terms, with the algorithms applied to anti-terrorist activities, being applied to politicians, aiming for absolute transparency.

A new order of financial stability should be based on agricultural output, to prevent over-lending and so over development, including state borrowing. A state should not be allowed to borrow more than their baseline ability to repay from sustainable agricultural capabilities. Bankers selling finance over and above such limitations should be treated as climate criminals. Corporations generating excessive profits from exploiting the work force or in denial of natural limitations, should be branded climate or eco criminals and prosecuted by the International Criminal Court, with assets stripped - for such crimes.

Nuclear power is dangerous. We are not just talking about accidents, like core melt-down and radioactive coolant leaks. We are talking about the fact that spent fuel is stored in caverns, in the sea and boreholes, without any possible long-term management plan. Simply because no corporation will survive for hundreds of thousands of years, and no bond or other financial deposit scheme could be large enough and long lasting enough to cope with any eventual pollution disaster. And what can happen will happen. That is Murphy's Law.

DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS - Boris Johnson's government has no real clean energy policy. His comedy cabinet of clowns is countenancing, new oil fields and coal mines, and licking the back-sides of nuclear energy companies. All of which has caused an energy crisis in the United Kingdom. When what he should have done was push for wind and solar renewables like there was no tomorrow. He could have done that with policies and statute, but he was too lazy, keeping in the back of his mind that many of his paying supporters are in the petrochemical and gas businesses and property developers. Talk about conflicted interests!

Such conflicts are hardly conducive to blazing a zero emission trail, because he would be biting the hand that feeds him - unless he was honest and incorruptible. In politics, that is a rare breed indeed.

Johnson's successor could make nuclear power untenable with a Radiation Tax. He could give wind and solar companies massive tax holidays, and force councils to implement an infrastructure for EVs, that pave the way to a sustainable hydrogen economy, while catering for battery electrics. Such policies would attract overseas investors, and restore confidence in the United Kingdom, where at the moment the country is weak and vulnerable to a virtual takeover with China and France investing in utilities, which should more properly be controlled by British (or at the very least European) investors who are themselves not in the pockets of Asian or Russian concerns, with world domination agendas, aimed at the accumulation of personal wealth.

We believe that every nation should be protected by international bullies, and their geographical borders and trade routes respected. We are also hopeful that one day there will be an international currency based on agriculture and the food production capability of planet earth, free of artificial fertilizers. That should be the new gold standard, where at the moment we are in free-fall with no limitations on the printing of money, that has no substance to back it up. Without some kind of natural brake on lending, all currencies are crypto.

IS IT SAFE? - In our view, nuclear power in any form, can never be safe. Under international law, nuclear proliferation is illegal. In view of the ultimate danger storing radioactive waste presents to future generations, we consider that any administration that encourages, endorses or otherwise employs atomic fission for any purpose, should be considered an Eco Nazi - and liable to the full force the law - to include confiscation of assets - to help pay for cleaning up the mess they have created for mankind.

BRITAIN GOT ANOTHER BUM DEAL - In electing a clown as Prime Minister, UK voters made one of the biggest mistakes in British political history. Brexit was and is a disaster, costing pensioners an absolute fortune, as real world inflation halved the value of their savings, with timber, copper and other commodities doubling in price. This will continue all the while an administration has the reins, that does not know it's arse from it's elbow. Due to a lack of control and deficit of forward thinking policies, the UK has an energy crises and unsustainable nuclear power, with food prices rising and no infrastructure to support either load leveling of renewable electricity or green hydrogen. We feel sure that Dr Hannibal Lecter would like to have his old friend for dinner. It might be that some Conservative Party members might also want to join in the feast.

In order to do so, countries have to rise above their petty squabbles and see the bigger picture. It's like two fleas arguing over who owns the dog they are living on. Nobody owns the earth, we are all just lucky to be living on it - and should respect it, and our neighbors right to life free of tyranny.
